No Medal Roll Index entry for an Archibald W Dawson and only 2 x Archibald Dawson's serving with Scottish regiments.  MRI's do not include birthyears

Any clue as to which regiment he served with?

Over 60% of WW1 service records  were burnt during the WW2 blitz.  There is a surviving record but it's for an Archibald B Dawson enlisted Sept 1914 aged 28 from Sauchie

Hi Carole,
Thank you for your interest. I have no information yet on him being in the forces.
His younger brother Alexander Dawson MM (1887-1918 ) served with the Royal Scots.

Is Archibald Waddell Dawson known to have married, if so, where/when?

Is he known to have had children, if so, where/when?

Not everybody served. Some were in reserved occupations, like one of my grandfathers (coal miner). Some had been in the Territorials (my other grandfather), and were exempt from call-up.

And some had flat feet, or insufficient teeth to cope with the Army diet, or some other disability.

Some got no medals because they never went abroad.

And, as CaroleW says, lots of the records got damaged in enemy action in the 2WW!

The 1939 Register of England and Wales has him in Bath CP, Somerset as a single person. There is a death in Bath for an Archibald Dawson b 1884 died June 1963 7c 53
A person of the same name appears on the Register of Electors 1926 County of West Lothian, Parish of Bathgate, at 82 South Street.

He was 31yrs old at the outbreak so eligible to serve unless physically unfit.

I think it’s likely that if he did enlist - his middle christian name would have been included and any MRI entry would have shown him as Archibald W

What was his occupation on the 1911 census?

He would have to have married around wartime with children born same for his occ. to be recorded as Soldier or similar to know if he was in any of the forces i.e. dates prior to the war where he's single will not help (I wouldn't think)?
