Ardlea, Laois - help with where to go to find a burial
« on: Thursday 08 November 18 01:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to confirm if someone actually died there and is buried there.

The information I have was passed on to me by a distance family relative who couldn't remember where they found this information so I would like to find out if it is true.

According to the information passed onto me William Wildermoth died 1st Jan 1860 in Ardlea.

Can anyone steer me into the right direction as to where I should be looking for records for this.

Many thanks
Wildermoth/Wildermouth (Ireland, England, France); Byrne, Whelan, Keenan (Ireland); Ellis (Cornwall); Bambrough (Durham), Newman (Durham and Norfolk); Watson (Durham); Mattison (Yorkshire); Kirker (New Zealand and Ireland); Pirie (Scotland); Campton (unknown);

Hi

I haven't been able to confirm his birth yet but according to his military papers (which I do have a copy of) he was born "in the parish of Kilkenny in or near the town of of Kilkenny)

Also on these papers it states that he was 10 years when he enlisted on the 27 Jul 1797 at Poole in the County of Dorsetshire (Dorset).

Not sure if this will be of any help

According to FamilySearch...   https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:3N9V-X31

William Wildermoth  born 27 July 1787, Kilkenny, Ireland. Baptism 23 October 1852, Cappinrush, Laois, Ireland.  Father Jean Christopher Wildermouth, Birth 1766 France. Death 7 February 1806
Ireland. Mother Anne Keenan, b1766.
William Wildermoth married Mary Whelan 1822 Ireland.
Death 1 January 1860 Ardlea, Laois, Ireland.

I think most of this may have been copied from Ancestry.

Thanks.

Most of that is the same information that keeps getting passed down through the family but no one has ever confirmed it which is what I have been slowly doing.  I think a lot of the original information came from the records of the LDS which sadly we all know how unreliable that is.

I've been slowly checking each "fact" and trying to find official documentation. Luckily I do have his service record etc. which I was able to get from the UK National Archives as he was a solider and listed on the Chelsea Pensioner scheme.

It is highly possible that he never even died or was buried in Ardlea but I thought I should try and check.
