Newcastle Portrait Presentation to James Anderson about 1890
« on: Thursday 08 November 18 08:04 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor James Anderson b 1842 hunted with the "Braes of Derwent" in the mid to late 1800's.
A Newcastle Wine and Spirit Merchant he was presented with a large Ralph Hedley portrait of him mounted and dressed to hunt. I would judge the portrait was presented 1885 to 1895.
I have a memory of reading a press cutting about the presentation, but have been unsuccessful with my searches for it.
Please can anyone point me towards that document?

I've looked and failed to find an article referring to a portrait (which doesn't mean to say that there isn't one, just that I can't find it).

There is an article in the Newcastle Courant 17th Oct 1891, page 7 col 5 which says a James Anderson, wine and spirit merchant was presented with a timepiece at a banquet.
