Wool weaver Evan Evans born Carno

I am looking for more information about my 3rd Great-grandfather Evan Evans. He places Carno as place of birth on the census. I estimate his DOB as 1786 and he may have died in 1866. His spouse was Ann Jones born Llanbrynmair. Ann's DOB varies from 1791 - 1796 and may have died in 1861.  The family were hand loom weavers. They seemed to live in Bont Dolgadfan were the children were baptised. The children were  called William, Evan (my 2nd GG) John, Ann and Mary.

Many thanks for the replies. Not too sure with all the boundary changes were to post! I recently sent census material to the Dolgelly record office concerning this only to be told it should of gone to Llandrindod Wells!
Osprey yes this is the family. The task now is to try and take the tree back further. When were Evan and Anne married and who were there parents? Family trees on Ancestry and My Heritage not really picking them up so I have really hit a wall. I am picking up some DNA in America so were they part of that mass migration from this area?

pretty sure there wasn't ever a boundary between Monmouthshire in south east Wales with Montgomeryshire. Breconshire & Radnorshire are in between.

If you don't have their marriage, how do you know Anne's surname? OK, just found the non-conformist baptisms in Bont Dolgadfan Independent which gives her surname.

There's a possible marriage in Llanbrynmair 2 May 1812 for Evan Evans bachelor of Carno and Anne Jones spinster of Llanbrynmair, both mark. Witnesses were Gwillim Howell & Athelstan Owen. Mr Owen witnessed all 6  marriages on the double page I looked at and may have been the parish clerk.
If that is the marriage, you would expect more children before Elizabeth's baptism in 1818. But they could be in a different church whose records haven't survived/aren't online.

The marriage does look a strong possibility given it took place in Anne's birth place. However, as you say the gap to the first child is perhaps unusual. Is it possible that Evan was at the Napoleonic wars?

unlikely. There still should have been children between 1815 & 1818. More likely that the baptisms are not online.

on that marriage Evan was of Llanwnog and Anne of Carno, both marked, witnesses Richard Jones & John Thomas, the latter possibly the parish clerk as he witnessed several marriages on the page.


That doesn't account for the baptism 24/8/1818 at Bontdolgadfan of Elizabeth Evans daughter of Evan & Ann formerly Jones, father a weaver, residence Porthybi (?), Llanbrynmair


Residence on baptism of Evan noted as Cil Haul, on William's as Belan, and on the other's as Wern/Werngerhynt. Scans of the register can be accessed on Ancestry in the Non-Parochial and Non-Conformist registers.
