Mary Ann OWENS aged 37 spinster of 9 Marshwood Cres, Ealing - her father noted as a deceased (unreadable word) coachman, Francis OWENS

In 1939 at 53 Legh Street, Newton in Makerfield, Lancashire I find Mary Anne NAYLOR with James and her date of birth as 8 May 1879.

Are you sure the 1939 entry is the right person, if born in May 1879 she would be 36 in Nov 1915 not 37

The 1939 entry is  the right one. There is a service record for James Naylor , widower, born 1880 in Lancashire , who enlisted in 1914 in the Connaught Rangers and was transferred to the Royal Irish Fusliliers a month later. The record lists children:

Frank b 1902 Newton
Alice 1903 Newton
James 1905 Newton
William 1908 Newton

Original next of kin : mother Ellen Powell of Earlestown , Newton  le Willows
updated to wife  Mary Anne ( nee Owens ) of 9 Marchwood Crescent , Ealing

The final address on the service record is the same as that on the 1939 Register.

good find!

I can find matches for three of the four children in 1911, all inmates in institutions of some sort. (not found James jnr)

I have a marriage certificate dated 20 Nov 1915 from St Benedict's Ealing

Mary Ann OWENS aged 37 spinster of 9 Marshwood Cres, Ealing - her father noted as a deceased (unreadable word) coachman, Francis OWENS

(the groom James Naylor a widower living at Pirbright Camp)

In 1911 at 9 Marshwood Cres, Ealing is Mr & Mrs Buott and 2 servants Dormer & Wade

In 1939 at 53 Legh Street, Newton in Makerfield, Lancashire I find Mary Anne NAYLOR with James and her date of birth as 8 May 1879.

I'm struggling to locate her in any census records 1881 to 1911

Any help welcome, thank you!

Doesn't seem to be a Marshwood cres in Ealing, but there is a Marchwood cres
on 1915 elec register, no voter registered at number 9, goes straight from 7 to 11 on odd numbers. Some of even numbers missing too. Maybe just a lodging house with short term tenants.
