Odd notification of new message on a thread
« on: Friday 09 November 18 12:11 GMT (UK) »
I just had an odd email notifying me of a new message. The poster name was a line of question marks and when I clicked the link to the thread there hadn't been a new contribution since July last year.

Any idea why it happened?

Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Don't see anything amiss although there seems to be a lot of Images on thread that may have Copyright.

No user of that "name"

I presume that you are questioning the fact that the email had all the question marks rather than a name, and not the content of the thread?

I've just checked my emails and of three notifications from RC, two give names but the third, to the same thread as yours, just gives question marks.

That user came on this morning - early. I noticed him/her and then, about 20 mins later, there was a post to your thread. It didn't really make sense.

The member had  joined recently.

I assume it was probably a spammer and  was removed.
