Baptism of Thomas WHITMORE ABT 1730 perhaps
« on: Friday 09 November 18 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Thomas WHITMORE & Eleanore ELLSON married by Banns 18 Nov 1754 Market Bosworth.

The couple proceeded to have a number of children at Market Bosworth and died 25 Mar & 4 Apr 1811 Market Boswoth respectively.

There is a baptism for a Thomas WHITMORE at Newbold Verdon on 13 Nov 1732.  Parents Joseph WHITMORE & Rececca. Two of Thomas & Eleanor's children were named Joseh & Rebecca.

I am unable to locate a more suitable birth but wanted to seek opinions from this board.

According to the Genuki Leicestershire pages Newbold Verdon is only 3 miles from Market Bosworth as the crow flies. Add this fact to the names of the children and I'd be inclined to say you have found your man. I'd certainly run with that.

A Bryan Elson married Elizabeth Thordborough (Thirdborough?) in Sutton Cheney, near Market Bosworth, on 6th November 1720.

They had several children, including a daughter baptised on 20th April 1735. Unfortunately, the first part of her name is unclear but it seems to end in 'er' or 'or'.

Hi Westy

Newbold Verdon is indeed on the road to Mkt. Bosworth (my school bus drove through there on the way to and from school at Mkt. Bosworth). However, I tend towards caution before assuming that the closeness of two villages pins down a person when the name is not uncommon in an area. You and Emelton may well be correct because the dates fit well but do keep an open mind as you go backwards.

I have Whitmores in my family from the area around Earl Shilton and Burbage which is not far away from Newbold Verdon and Mkt. Bosworth so there were clearly a few of them around in those days.

cheers
Tony

Hello David & Tony,

many thanks for your input.

I agree 100% caution is warranted and shall follow the line to see where it leads me and explore any other options.
