Is this him?

Sometimes there is useful information on the cemetery details page.

I think that's it Sandra; especially as there is no grave just his name on a panel.

As Nanny Jan says.  He would have been reported missing initially until his unit were able after the action to take stock and work out when men were last seen, which is where the date came from.

He died in the action to take Hill 70 in the Battle of Loos.  The Commander in Chiefs despatch about the battle is here
https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/battles/british-field-commanders-despatches/sir-john-frenchs-ninth-despatch-loos/ (look for 15th Division which is the one his battalion belonged to).  Wiki has a lot on the battle but take care to add 1915 to your searches.

The battalion  war diary has a long account of their part in the battle and  is at:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mzx/ on Ancestry (free access at the moment).

On the link below, Hill 70 is in the bottom right quarter of square H 31 and Puits 14 Bis (mentioned in the despatch) a little to the north.
