I am trying to find information regarding my great grandfather Charles Wilson born roughly 1837 in New York.  He married in Liverpool,England in 1864 to a Jane Bagnall age 17. Charles was a merchant seaman and his father James Wilson is stated as a Farmer. Jane's father is stated as Samuel and a shoemaker. We have all the information regarding the family going forward, but cannot seem to make a breakthrough regarding Charles family.

Charles and Jane had a son born 1878 in Liverpool, he also was a merchant seaman. He died between December 1904 and 1906. We cannot find his death and believe he died abroad, one death keeps coming up is one in New Jersey around that time.

I would appreciate any help.
Regards
Sophia

We have all the information regarding the family going forward,

so what was that?
Is he consistent on age & birthplace (for example)
What do they name their kids (family naming pattern(s))
When & where were all their kids born?
What names witness at the marriage?
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

The family stayed in Liverpool U.K. and the witness's names on the marriage is Mary Murphy and Daniel Wright. His address on the marriage cert. is a street where all the boarding houses where for the American sailors. As for naming patterns I do not know about that as I do not know anything about their parents.

Hi Sophia254,

You referred to a New Jersey death for Charles Wilson around the 1904 - 1906 time.
Was it this one you are referring to :-  Charles F Wilson born 1878 who passed away 5 October 1905  ???

Thank you Sandra,

That finally takes another possible death out of the picture.  I have been years trying to find Charles Junior's death. I have him leaving a ship in Liverpool on 29th December, 1904. His wife re-married 28th March 1907. I have ordered a few certificates who match the age around those years but that are always wrong. I am certain he died abroad.
Thank you again for eliminating that death.
Regards
Sophia

Hi Sandra,
As for Charles Wilson born around 1837 all I know is that on the census and his marriage it states he was born in New York. Young Charles went to sea as most of the men in Liverpool with it being a big port. When young Charles got married his best man was James Wilson, I have checked that out and reached a brick wall.
I have a feeling his family are Irish/Scottish descendants.
The second daughter born was named Harriet Emily which I suspect is Charles's mother's name.
