Cooper Cooper lady away from home
« on: Friday 09 November 18 21:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I am looking for help with where this photo could have possibly been taken, long shot but worthy of asking so I can help confirm who this lady is.

I have previously posted a photo of her with her sons and it was suggested it was dated early 1860s.

I am guessing this would be the same period, this time I would really appreciate the gentleman's and son's clothing being dated, if it is the same as I think it is. It doesn't look like the lady has aged much, but I could be wrong.

Secondly, the building ... I have no idea where they are, the lady I would like to connect her to lived in Portsea, Hampshire on the 1861 census.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It looks like the same lady to me and the little boy too but he looks a bit younger so it looks like it was taken a little earlier but not much.

He looks like Abe Lincoln.
As you can see in both this is a quite well off family which should give an idea if it's the family you hope it is.
It looks like it was taken outside of their home.
Why she's holding a set of curtains I don't know.

 :D

I thought the same when I first saw it and also wonder about the brocade/curtain or whatever that she is carrying. It seems too big to be a shawl*. Could she be heavily pregnant and is holding it to cover her bump.

Just a thought  :-\

Wendy - what were the dates of her offsprings' births?

* Looking again, is it a paisley patterned shawl?

She actually had 3 boys, so this could be a younger one.
Her boys were born 1847, 1850 and 1853.
I have found another photo which is a further away shot of 2 men in front of the same building.
The two men standing in front I believe were in the Bedfordshire Militia.
Still unknown where the photo was taken.
