Did Mine EVER serve?
« on: Saturday 10 November 18 09:13 GMT (UK) »
I have looked a couple of times in the past, but I've discovered any connection between my ancestors and World War 1

The only ones that may have qualified were:

David Charles Harris born 06/06/1861 (died 1925)
William Henry Preedy born 28/08/1865 (died 1933)

I did once hear that Johnny Hugkulstone (a relative) was killed during the war ... but I have no idea which one or who Johnny is.

I've had a look at the free ancestry stuff but it's just showing census and GRO indexes.

Thanks in advance,
Hugkulstone: All

They are really a bit old to have fought in WW1 - not impossible but I think you really need to look at the next generation i.e. those born in the 1890's.

A John Hugkulstone of "Westminster" served with the King's Royal Rifle Corps throughout the war and survived.  He had a step father William Richard (something unreadable) of Westminster.

While the other two were too old for conscription (even when the upper age went up to 51), they may have served as volunteers in UK.  Could you give more details, place of birth, family etc?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Johnny Hugkulstone's father (step father) would have been William Richard Howell maybe?

My Grandparents would have told me about WWI, as they had about WWII so I think that my lot never fought.

Thanks a lot all.

The surname does look like Howell.  You will find his record on Ancestry quite easily.
