1881 CENSUS HELP PLEASE: Ainslie, R.M.
« on: Saturday 10 November 18 13:34 GMT (UK) »
Some time ago I found my grandfather listed in the 1881 census at 'Walton Lodge School, Walton-in-Gordano'.  He had recently left Cambridge University and I suspect was on a short spell of teaching.  When I found the entry I failed to record the census details [arrrgh!], and trying again to find them I have drawn blank on both Ancestry and FindMyPast, using many variations.

He was Richard Montague Ainslie, born in Easingwold, Yorkshire in 1858.  The surname is often found ending ..ey.

If any kind soul can point me towards what I found previously, I should be most grateful.

Ainslie

Brilliant!  Thanks very mcuh.
I think I found the entry via the old 1881 discs from the Mormon Church but once again I failed to note the details.  Lesson learned, again.

Thanks again.  I have plenty of detail on my gf but there is a gap between his BA degree and ordination.  I do not think I can find out how long he spent at that school.

He attended St. Peter's school and there are several 1877 reports of an R. M. Ainslie playing cricket for the school.

The are cricket reports for the 1882 season of an R. M. Ainslie turning out for Clevedon (stone's throw from Walton in Gordano) and Somerset Cuckoo Penners.

Welshnewspapers online
Could he be the R M Ainslie mentioned in this 1883 newspaper item?
