Trying to find what regiment my Grandfather fought in.
« on: Saturday 10 November 18 17:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Can anyone help please?  I'm trying to find which regiment my Grandfather fought with.  His name was Edward Burman, born 1883 in East Dulwich in London, but lived most of his life in Northampton.  I think he joined up about 1916, aged 33.  My Grandma was very cross about it as he was in a reserved occupation, so didn't need to go.  He rarely talked about it but I think he was a gunner.  I do not have a service number or anything much except this photo.  Can anyone identify the regiment from the uniform?  Edward is on the left.

There is an Edward Burman Royal Field Artillery listed in the medal roll's army no.237376.the dress
certainly fit's in with RFA.The few other's sharing his name were in  infantry andlabour corp's unit's.And that certainly look's like the correct cap badge on his comrade.

Agreed.  Unfortunately his full service record has not survived and his medal records give no clues as to which brigade(s) he served in.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

As a a back up - on the GRO index there are two female births in Northampton 1915 and 1916, surname Borman, mother's maiden name Haynes.
These birth certificates may have his regiment on them in the occupation column.

Just an observation or 2. He's wearing the pre economy tunic (1916) so probably joined in 1915.
I've tried manipulating the shoulder title but can't quite make out the middle letter. However it doesn't look like a G or H so that only leaves the RFA.
You say he was a Gunner, these 2 look like Drivers.
Agree that the 1916 birth may give a bit more.
