DULSTON Family
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 04:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello All
It's been a little over ten years since I was here enquiring about this family, but ......
The 1871 Census lists Samuel DULSTON and his wife Jane, with children Joseph, William, Edward, Harry, Arthur, and at one stage there was a daughter Emma.

What I am seeking is someone, descended from any of the children EXCEPT William, who has taken a DNA test for family history purposes.

I need to either prove, or disprove, a familial connection.

Thanks in advance (with fingers crossed) .....

Are you already aware of the following info?

Daughter Emma was 2mths old on the 1861 census and died Sept qtr 1861

Samuel and Jane didn’t marry until 1863.  Samuel was previously married.

The 1871 entry does not show a son Joseph

Samuel and Jane had another son, Mark baptised 27 Feb 1866.  Samuel living at Plantation Road, same address as in 1861 census.  Couldn't find any other record for Mark.

Arthur's second forename was Alfred, baptised 27 Mar 1864, father a tailor.

The 1876 County Directory lists Samuel Dulston, tailor, Dawson Place.

Edward was born c1860 from 1871 census, baptised 04 Jan 1863/64 s/o Samuel & Jane, tailor

Arthur Alfred born c1865 from 1871 census but baptised 27 Mar 1864 s/o Samuel & Jane, tailor

The 1851 census shows Samual (tailor) & Jane living with a John Willm Baylis, tailor at Beef Lane, St Ebbe, Oxford but Samuel shown born Devonshire whereas in 1861 & 17 censuses shown as born on Shropshire – Whitchurch.  They have no children recorded.

They are recorded as marriage/banns 01 Dec 1863 with Jane’s nee name as Hooper. Samulel’s father recorded as Joseph.

So were they living as a married couple before this and ‘legalised’ the situation post birth of William and Edward, possibly also Harry?

Samuel wasn't baptised until 13 Feb 1876 at St Barnabus, Oxford, born 18 July 1811 Shropshire, parents recorded as Joseph Dulston boatbuilder and Cecily Dulston.  Samuel of Dawson Place, St Barnabus, Oxford.  Record marked as 'Conditionally Baptisings (or similar)'

Samuel appears to have been admitted to Oxford Asylum on 16 Feb 1876 and died 13 Mar 1877.  If this is ‘your’ Samuel did he decide to get baptised as he knew he was seriously ill?

Interesting family.

I suspect this may have muddied the waters somewhat.   ???
