Isobel McFarlan/e
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 13:50 GMT (UK) »
this lady has me foxed

I have her as Isobel McFarlane 1784 - 1845  and certs that seem to prove her Birth - marriage and death.

I know she married George Short and that is how I found her death.. as she is named as McFarlan Short.... so that is an almost definite.

I also have the marriage document.  Which states both names - so hopefully correct.

I Know a fair bit about George.. he is my direct line.

Now her birth I had as that of daughter of William and Jean Caw.   but dates were wrong.

So have found a hopefully correct Father JAMES and Mary Mc.Cartney

but though I am sure I have found Mary McCartney/Mcfarlanes death.

I cannot find a marriage for her to James..... and without that cannot verify my James BIRTH

I have been popping back to this one over the years.. so its an ongoing   ....aaaargh......

What I need is a marriage that fits Isobel  / her parents -  supposedly James McFarlane and Mary McCartney dates around
James c 1743 birth   nothing after that
Mary  c   1766 - 1786    although the birthdate for her was taken from her death age and that of the birth of Isobel....
All this is in the area of Glasgow   and yes I am trying Scotlands People.. so  dont go spending credits -- ask me and I will do that if you have any more thoughts on this than me...

sorry its a bit of a niggly one.

I hope its comprehnsible.. if so you are lucky ...this brain.. frazzled...as per

Found their marriage and the birth of Mary but only death in 1845 I could see was Isabella Short 11/12/1845 in Glasgow no McFarlanes

Couldn't see any other children born to this couple and no deaths of Short MS McFarlane including Mary's

Forgot to ask have you found them in 1841

Have possibly found Isabel in 1841 there are no Isabel Shorts of the right age but there are 2 possible Isobel/Isabella McFarlanes
1st Isabella age 50 as a female servant to the Storrie Family in Barony (head of the family age 21 so the rest look like her siblings) Isabella born out of County

2nd Isabella age 60 midwife living on her own in Gorbals also born out of county

Bear in mind the rounding down of the ages and in Scotland women keep their maiden name and it was quite common to find wives or widows under their maiden name on the 41 census

Lovely - the 1841 of the lady Midwife... could well be her.

I was hoping the address would be closer to her daughter in 1841
I have her in St Thomas... without her husband but with some of her children.
Never mind

hopefully a step forward.
