Vauxhall 14
first thing I said when I saw the bonnet side grilles
I was thinking a Vauxhall 14-6 myself, but you're definitely correct. reducing the glare, you can clearly make out the radiator cap/motometer and grill badge.

I just like to do photo restores.

Just got an e-mail from Dundee archives - thanks arthurk  :). They do have records for YJ registrations but not digitised as yet. Record for YJ5982 states :

Description:12.0 Vauxhall Saloon,
Colour: Chromatic grey
Date of Registration: 24th May 1938

My relative must have purchased it second hand as he is not the listed owner.

Thanks to all.

I think it is a 12.0 Vauxhall Saloon!   ;D
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

It looks like my 14 but the grille looks a bit different, but I put that down to light glare.
