Le Monte
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 16:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Le Monte was the stage name of a music-hall artist who toured the U.K. in the late 19th and early 20th century. I don't know his real name or what happened to him. Newspaper archives suggest that he was Canadian by birth. Any information about Le Monte would be most gratefully received.
                            Many Thanks

Various articles refer to him as Monsieur or Mister Le Monte which suggests that it was his surname.

Reference in an 1894 newspaper listing of letters at the post office waiting to be claimed lists a Mr. T. Le Monte.  1890 similar list names a M. Le Monte.  In an article dated 14 June 1890 in The Era, they refer to him as M. LeMonte, quick change artiste.

Here's an interesting entry .. from The Era (London) on 27 June 1891, notice of the birth at Frankton, Rugby, on the 23rd inst., the wife of Le Monte, protean artist, of a daughter.

Reference in The Era (London) on 8 September 1894 re the birth of a son to Mrs. Le Monte on September 1, wife of Le Monte, protean artist.  Both doing well.

1891 Census has a Thomas Reynolds Lamonte, aged 62, an artist, born Scotland, living in St. Marylebone, London, with his wife, Lucy Margaret, aged 32.   Thomas died in 1898 noted as an artist, leaving estate to his wife, with bequeaths to his god-daughters and god-sons so the children, if any, must not have lived.  Just info for thought.
