Herbert Johnson 3142(S) Royal Marine Medical Unit
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 18:22 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help?

My Great Grandfather was Herbert Johnson who lived in Creswell, Derbyshire. He served in the First World War in the Royal Marine Medical Unit. However, for some reason, I'm struggling to find his record on Ancestry. I know he was discharged to go and work at the local coal mine on 28th March 1917.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The record that Cathy points to is on FindMyPast (free access still). (Ancestry directs you to the National Archives where you can see the preview and/or buuy the original - use FindMyPast.

(They made a cook out of a miner and then seemed to think better of it!)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Thank you, he was also an ambulance man in the Red Cross. I assume this would not be at the same time as being in the Royal Marines? Where could I find more information?
