Be helpful if we had some more info about him - particularly his Regimental number as there are approx 600 William Reid's on the MRI

Edit

You note it says "returned"  if you use Google - you get this info

Born WEXFORD Ireland 1864 service record gives two dates of birth
Attached is his service numbers. Certainly one of them confirms I have the right man. I’d just want it know though if those entries indicates he was dead.

How would we know if he was still alive in 1923 when you haven't given a birthyear/birthplace etc etc?

You note it says "returned"

Thank you. William was supposed to have died a few months after my father in law was born in 1913 On the ‘ Cape Town run’ (sailor) but from these records he was obviously alive much later than that. His wife remarried as a widow in 1922.

Nothing to indicate he died during WW1. On saying that his widow is applying for his medals in 1924. She refers to him as her late husband. This is after they had been returned for correction in 1923. It's possible he returned them but died before getting them back.
Her address at the time was 116 Wellington Rd. Park Rd. Dingle L'pool.
His Regts. were 1st. Garrison Battalion R.I.R. with whom he served in Gallipoli hence his 15 Star.
Then Lab. Corps, R.E. & finally Inland Waterways & Docks (R.E.).

He was still alive in 1917 as the Lab. Corps didn't exist prior to this.
