LOOK UP headstone transcript ROOKWOOD Cemetery
« on: Monday 12 November 18 07:16 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping to get a birth date (and any other information) for Thomas RUSHTON who was interred Devonshire St Cemetery November 1822, and reinterred to Rookwood in 1901. The details for Rookwood are:

http://www.rookwoodcemetery.com.au/deceased-search-engine
Zone B   AAA   554

My request for a search is made following advice I have been given in this thread https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=803487.0

Any help gratefully appreciated

Also on Trove
Sydney Gazette & New SOuth Wales Advertiser 22 Nov 1822.

Yesterday forenoon, suddenly, Mr. Thomas Rushton,
aged 78. The deceased was the oldest brewer in the
Colony, enjoyed generally pretty good health; and
went into eternity without a moment's warning. Com-
ments we refrain from, only it must be said, on so aw-
ful an event,—READER! "Prepare to meet thy GOD!
Smith, Corrigan, Hart. Walker, Mellett, Bridge, Brew , Nelson (Liverpool)

Thanks for your help. There is a longer Rootschat thread, "Thomas Rushton, Liverpool brewer convicted of forgery, sent to Australia", which has covered some of this. Apparently the newspaper with the "Prepare to meet your God" exhortation was run by staunch Methodists. It was suggested I start this Rookwood thread as well just in case there was something on a headstone when he was reburied, but it seems not. We are working on a 1744 birth date but it hasn't really opened up any more information about his antecedents. We found the will left John Tatlock, the father of Rushton's wife Amelia Tatlock, which was very informative. The Tatlocks were a brewing family, so Thomas may have married into the business.
