Scotland to Hamburg - Margaret HEINS
« on: Monday 12 November 18 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Margaret Cameron was born on the Isle of Mull, Scotland around 1821, the eldest of five children born to Archibald Cameron and his wife Janet Campbell. By 1829 the family had moved to Glasgow.
Margaret married Valentine Heins in St Peter's Anglican Church, Liverpool in May 1840.
In the 1861 and 1871 census Margaret's son Edward Heins was living with his Scottish aunts in Glasgow and he was born around 1843 in Hamburg. There is no trace of Margaret in Scotland until she appears as a widow living with Edward in Glasgow in 1881. In the 1891 census Edward is living in London where he died unmarried in 1896. By 1891 Margaret has returned to Mull where she died in 1901.
Can anyone advise me how I could find out if Margaret and Valentine had any other children who may have been born in Hamburg? Where might she have lived between her marriage in Liverpool in 1840 and her re-appearance in Scotland in 1881?

Thank you garstonite. I had suspected there must have been a seafaring connection. The Cameron family and their descendants have many connections to the Glasgow shipyards.

Are you sure about the Hamburg connection.

Had a look through the Hamburg Addresse books from 1843 - 1860.
There are a few Heins listed but no Valentine (Valentin)

Hi davecapps. I can only be sure about the Hamburg connection in as much as Catherine's son on each of the census returns in the UK claims to have been born in Hamburg.

There is an Anglican Church in Hamburg . Their registers should be on ancestry or returns from Anglican  Chaplaincy at London Metropolitan Archives.
