James Larkins of St Mary’s Rd, Hastings was fined in 1879 for wasting water.  His son William James Larkins, a boy in his employ, was also summoned and fined for the same offence.

Sussex Advertiser, 6 December 1879

This James was born in Brede, Sussex and (as James Larkin) was a 38 yr old bricklayer in 1871.  His son William James Larkin b 1865 also became a bricklayer.

What is your source for the mariner James?  Have you traced your own line back, generation by generation?

I found info in the fisherman's museum
I have traced my family back to Joseph Larkin 1749 from swanscombe
He moved to Brede
All my family date back to Beckley Brede and Hastings
The Uptons and Parlett are the other names !
I am trying to fill some gaps and also interested in the occupations of some of my ancestors
