Searching for Pyle family members
« on: Monday 12 November 18 18:18 GMT (UK) »
RootsChat covers such a variety of things to do with tracing family information that I thought I would ask if there is any member out there with or without the surname Pyle who has a connection to my ancestor Thomas Pyle who was murdered at the Redhills path in Durham in 1882. His murderer Peter Bray was hung in Durham Jail in 1883. Thanks!

Hi CaroleW

Thanks for that. I have tried that without success. I have added my search there for the Pyle surname mentioning my relative who was murdered.
I am part of a small family, that I am aware of. However my relative Thomas had a number of children who I have done some research on but as time went by I lost track of including the women's side of the family.
I just thought somebody with or without the surname may recognise my relative who was murdered.
Robert

I always find it easier searching the male side - particularly if they have fairly uncommon christian names.  Daughters marry and sometimes re-marry and change names etc

1881 census has 3 sons who you already know about

Bartholomew Leck b 1861 married Dinah Ann Vinton 1887 - one son Bartholomew Vinton b 1897 died 1964.  BVP married 1917 and had a son of the same name 1918 and also a son Morris b 1932 who died 1990.

Morris married 1960 and had 3 children so you may want to follow that line as one was a son

Thomas’s other 2 sons were

Joseph b 1865 married Mary Arabella Fletcher 1886 - 5 sons
George b 1879 married Hannah Bell Potts 1900 - 3 sons by 1911

Hi CarolW

Thanks for the reply.
Like you I am only concentrating on the male side of my family with the surname Pyle.
I am sorry to say that none of the names mention in your reply are known to me.
I have done some research already and Thomas Pyle had children and except for one son, all had the Pyle surname.
Just shows how trying to trace your roots can be a headache.
Robert

Hi CarolW

The first entry in your reply looks right but my relative was living with a 'servant'/concubine lady in 1881 who he had a son to because his wife had died before that date.
I am out of the house at the moment so I cannot check but I think her name was Ann. His sons included Edward, Thomas William, Ralph & Robert and he one or two daughters as well.

Hi CarolW

I have just remembered his 'servants' name was Ann Dixon.
Can I just say that I am not struggling for basic information about him and his children. I am struggling to trace his parents and their parents etc. Also I only recently found out that one his sons married an older woman who had been married before and we then became connected to the Appleby family in Stanley Co Durham.
Apart from info on Thomas's parents and grandparents etc it would be nice to see if anybody reading my request can link their family to mine through Thomas who was murdered at Durham.
