I am hoping for some help searching where my Great Grandfather went with his children after his wife died 10 days after childbirth.  Henry Hinksman b 1842 in Madely Shropshire, & Rebecca Matthews b 1841in Birmingham England gave birth to 9 children, 5 died at early ages. In 1883 Rebecca died after birth of son Ernest, leaving her husband with 4 children, Henry, age 10; John Alfred, age 8; Albert age 6 and Ernest, a baby.  I cannot find what happened to my great grandfather,  where did he take the children:  I found his death in the city of Edinburgh 1897 showing 1st marriage Rebecca, 2nd marriage Julia McKenna. As far as the children, I find Henry married in 1892, Ireland.  John Alfred married in 1905 Ireland, Albert died 1913, Ireland; and no record of Ernest at all other than birth.
Does anyone know how I could find the (14) missing years.  ???  Thanks for your help , Kathleen

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Where did Rebecca die?  I can see a death for Rebecca Hinksman aged 42 in Salford, Dec qtr 1883, but it coincides with the birth of a baby Herbert Hinksman, rather than Ernest ???

Baptism records Nov 17 1883 shows Ernest, but unable to find birth, so perhaps his name was Herbert as you have found.

Thank you, it appears the correct name for baby boy is Herbert and unfortunately he did not survive.  So that leaves my Great Grandfather with 3 children to parent, I am curious and would love to know where he took them.
