burial in common ground in glasgow
« on: Tuesday 13 November 18 13:09 GMT (UK) »
After many months of searching, have found a burial record in 1852 of my 2xgreat grandfather, but it throws up lots of questions. It lists his address as "unknown" but we have  records of his wife and children living not far away. Can we find out who registered the death, identified him etc ???

Unfortunately civil registration started in 1855 in Scotland so there will be no death certificate only the burial record

Thank you for that.  The cause of death is given as Dropsy, so would there be a record, perhaps a police doctor report? It is sad to think he may have been homeless or a vagrant, perhaps even the family didn't know as the 1861 census shows his wife as still married, and still living at same address of the 1851 census when the family were all together  or..../???

You can e-mail the Mitchell and they'll do a search for you. There is a fee to pay which I think is £12.
