Johnson Marriage-Houlton ME 1897
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 03:10 GMT (UK) »
Looking for confirmation of the marriage of Elijah Mark JOHNSON and Hannah Amy COLLICOTT. My grandfather had written it down as October 15,1897 in Houlton,Aroostook,ME,but not everything he recorded is accurate. Both Elijah and Hannah were from Canterbury,New Brunswick,Canada, and all fourteen of their children were born and raised there as well,so it confuses me as to why they would have been married in Maine.

The date of marriage date you are giving indicates they were married 4 months after the birth of their son Carl in June 1897?

At familysearch.org database:  Maine Marriages, 1771-1907.

No Elijah Johnson or Hannah Collicott listed.  However, there were two marriages of note:

Joann Callicut m. Milton Nickerson, 9 October 1868,  Houlton, Aroostook, Maine
Elizabeth Collicet m. Elijah Wright, 25 January 1849, Aroostook County, Maine

So there may be some connection between your Hannah and families of Aroostook Co., ME.

There are connections between these two:Joann(actually Johannah)was the sister of Hannah's father,Abraham(Elijah's mother Ruth was also his sister),whereas Elizabeth was the sister of William Collicott, their father;Johannah's husband's name was actually Dickinson.

@RJ137 That confused me too, though it's not impossible.

I have an update to this:

Not too long ago my uncle revealed that Carl was the result of an affair between Hannah and Elijah's brother Asa. Not sure how that situation went down but Carl was regarded as Elijah's son even in official records.
