Harry Crompton (Port Arthur -Thunder Bay)
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 11:46 GMT (UK) »
Relative Harry Crompton b. 1878, emigrated to Canada in 1907 and died in 1953, being buried at Port Arthur . I know he made two trips back to the UK in 1920 and 1927 , but apart from that I know nothing of his life in Canada. I don't believe he married (at least, I have found no record), but would be piece together some picture of his life, if anyone can help.

Hello from me too...

You can check with the Thunder Bay library.  Perhaps they have an obituary for him - maybe some directories (listing address, occupation etc)?

It was sad to read on the Canada 411 form - returning 19 February 1921 - no relatives or friends  :'(

Thank you so much Sandra and RunKitty for your  fabulous information. I will look now to find the name of the ship he returned on in 1921 as I can't make it out on the link. Yes, Sandra, it is sad that he doesn't name any relatives in Canada, but he did leave behind 5 sisters and four brothers in England. Maybe that's why he emigrated - just too crowded at home!
Thanks again.

I think the ship is the S.S. Canada - from Liverpool to Halifax.

Yes - I can see him on the passenger list.  The image isn't very clear on the Library and Archives Canada site.  I don't have access to Ancestry to see if the list is there as well - with a clearer picture.   There is more information on the Form 30A, but here is the full passenger list  - for your records.

https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/immigration/immigration-records/passenger-lists/passenger-lists-1865-1922/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=13705&

Harry is line 15 on page 8 of this list.  It says he is going to Port Arthur.  He is a labourer.  He is returning home.
