Mary Ann Freeman and Nathaniel Weaver
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 13:59 GMT (UK) »
I have found on ancestry 3 marriage banns 31 Oct 1841, 7 Nov 1841 and 14 Nov 1841 for Mary Ann Freeman and Nathaniel Weaver at Gloucester St John the Baptist.
However there was never a marriage. On 16 April 1842 Mary Ann Freeman gave birth to a son Nathaniel Weaver Freeman. But his birth and baptism records state Mary was a single mother. What happened to Nathaniel Weaver the father - I cannot find a death for him around 1841/1942...

Have you made a typo re dates -should they be 1841/2 not 1941/2

if so Nathniel Weaver Preston b 1842 had "unknown" entered as his father on marriage and  witnesses were Mary A & Henry preton (I think his mother nd stepfather??)

The father may not have died just got cold feet about the wedding and impending fatherhood.

There's a Nathan Weaver age 19 in Boddington Glos 1841 that could be him.

Boddington is very close to Staverton - where Mary Ann was from, according to the 1851/1861 census when she was Mary A Preston aged 28/39.

Baby Nathaniel would have been conceived a few weeks after the 6 June 1841 census.  Perhaps they rushed into engagement once it was known Mary Ann was pregnant, but did not go ahead with the marriage.
