Hi trying to find info on Gilbert Wastell born 1903 died 1973 in Newton Abbott area. I believe he had 3 children. Does anyone know what he did during ww2 and how he ended up in Devon. Any help appreciated.  Ansells ales

Hello do you know where he was born?

He may have retired by the seaside as many of us aspire to do!

If you use freebmd  https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl  you can search for yourself for a marriage for Gilbert.  Then using the same site you can search for children of the marriage using surname Wastell and the maiden surname of his wife to confirm the possible children you have

Have you looked for him on the 1939 register.  He will only appear on there if he was not in the 'Forces' when it was taken but if he does appear it will show his occupation.  Maybe that will give a clue to why he moved to Devon
