James Hart at Chaceley?
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 18:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I have just discovered that my 5xggrandfather James Hart who married a Sarah Diar in Eldersfield in 1791 is listed as being " Of Chaceley"
Since I can find no more traces of the Harts in Eldersfield prior to 1791,I'm wondering if his baptism records (and /or other earlier records relating to the Hart family) may be recorded in parish records of St Johns church Chaceley.
I believe some of the church records from the 18th century may still exist but as boundaries shift and diocese aren't always the same as counties, could someone advise me where these records might be held? Glos archive? Worcs archive? a.n other?
Advice from anyone who knows the geography of this area (I don't!) about where to go next or who has access to these records would be much appreciated.

Is there any indication of his age in later records (e.g. burial) which might yield a rough birthdate?

Sorry,no. All I know is that his wife Sarah, was listed as a widow and I can only find records of the birth of one child James (my 4xggfather) in Eldersfield 1793. So maybe they were a bit older when they married? or,equally, they could have had other children before they married who might be listed in Chaceley.

If you Google:  Eldersfield baptisms

There is a website put together which has been on the 'net' for a number of years

Just look for the heading:

Eldersfield Registers - Rootsweb

If you go to the bottom of the first page and click on Home

You will find, the Chaceley, Worcestershire, Parish Register Transcripts

Volume 1 - Baptisms, Marriages & Burials 1538-1718
Volume 2 - Baptisms & Burials - 1719-1812
Missing Entries 1719-1754; 1760-1773
Volume 3 - Baptisms 1813-1900

etc etc

Thank you. The above link has proved useful in allowing me to see that The Harts do not appear to be in evidence in Chanceley so back to the drawing board to find out where they were before 1791.looking further in the area around Eldersfield.
