COLES,Elizabeth b 1844

Folks,
Elizabeth Coles was baptised in 1844 in Yaxley,base born daughter of Sarah Coles(b 1823) and is on 1851 census with siblings Jane and William and their grandparents.In 1861 she is a servant in Stepney,pob shown as Huntingdonshire,showing correct age.
I have found a marriage to John Thomas Quincey on 21 Aug 1865 in Plumstead,Kent,no age shown,but father John is added.One witness is John Blackman who matches an 1845 birth in Yaxley and by 1871 is found in Putney.
In 1871 John and Elizabeth with baby Mary b 1870 are living in Woolwich.Elizabeth's age is out but pob is correct.Using GRO index i checked Mary's birth,mmn is Blackman!
I can not find a marriage Coles to Blackman 1861-1871.
Am i missing something?

Try this, but I could be completely wrong of course.  All events are in Peterborough registration district.

Sarah Strickson married William Coles December quarter 1844.

Elizabeth Coles birth registerd March quarter 1845 mmn Strickson.  Maybe she was born and baptised before they could get married.

John Blackman born December quarter 1844 mmn Cole.

John Blackman married Elizabeth Coles December quarter 1839.

The younger Elizabeth and the younger John are cousins?

I couldn't find any Elizabeth Cole born Yaxley/Hunts with her grandparents in 1851, but I did find William and Sarah Coles with Elizabeth and siblings Emma, Alford (Alfred) and Ann Frances.

I couldn't find any reason why Mary Quincey had mmn Blackman.

Folks,
By way of explanation this is a one place study for Yaxley and my main source is the PR's for the parish.
The Coles/Strickson line is a different family,as is Blackman/Coles.
I was hoping to find Elizabeth Coles marrying a Blackman who dies and she then marries Quincey.
Will remain one of those that makes no sense.

I had similar problems with illegitimate relatives where they used mother's or father's surname at different times.

Looking at the 1871 census, she gave her birth as 1839, which fits with Elizabeth Blackman baptised in Yaxley on 9th September 1838. Her father was John Blackman and mother Elizabeth Coles who married in 1839.

I can't find a registration for an Elizabeth Blackman in the area but there is one for Elizabeth Cole in Peterborough in Q3 1838.

Although Freereg indexes her as Blackman, she was probably registered as Cole(s).

Having gone back and looked at all Elizabeth Coles/Blackman born 1840 +/- 5 i think your scenario fits best and have now made that change.Sarah and her three children go missing after 1861,they may be anywhere.
