I saw evidence on Ancestry of a John Burton Gooch marrying an Elizabeth Wooley (born 1844) (or similar) but Ancestry would not let me view the details. Could this be evidence of a re-marriage by the John Burton Gooch in this family line? ....

The Queensland bdm online index is free to search.  Ancestry does have their own transcription of an index uploaded, but of course Ancestry rules may preclude third party look ups. So perhaps best to look at the Queensland BDM index info. 

I can see the Qld BDM index notes a marriage for Emma Allen WOOLEY and John GOOCH registered Brisbane in 1873.  Ref #4184.  I leave it to you to determine the date of that marriage per the search engine at Qld BDM.  Your plastic card is not needed for that, but it would be needed if you were seeking detailed info from the cert which you can download from the website.

-  Camperdown Cemetery Register :  Bertha GOOCH, of Riley Street drowned 13 December 1852 and was buried in section 6 in a private grave.  Bertha was recorded as aged 4.  The undertaker was John Hill.

-  St James (C of E) parish register : Bertha Marina, born 16 December 1853 was baptised 22 January 1854 Rev Oswald J HOWELL.  Bertha’s parents noted as residing Woolloomooloo, and as John Campbell GOOCH, a clerk, and Elizabeth.

He didn't last long as a cop!

I just went through the BDMs like everybody else and confirmed for myself no evidence of a wife or offspring, so I regard his time in NZ as probably brief and inconsequential. It would be great to find a ship on which he arrived, 1852-62.

I'm thinking now he probably settled in Australia, despite the lack of solid evidence there.
