A slightly odd question.
I have a distant releative who we know was in WW1. Sadly his records did not survive and he has a relatively common name. He told his granddaughter that he was in the REME, I’ve checked and this regiment did not come into being until 1940’s. What would be the equivalent in 1914/18 or which units could have gone on to become it.
Hopefully this might help me discard a few more medal cards.
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
