GRO pdf query
« on: Friday 16 November 18 08:46 GMT (UK) »
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I did have a quick look but didn't find anything.
I haven’t done much FH for a while, so the advent of certificates in pdf format passed me by. I was just about to get going again when I discovered that it is now possible to order pdf’s. I just have a quick query. What is the quality of the pdf? When creating my own FH pdf I was able to save as high quality large files or as a lower quality version. Is the GRO pdf a good quality which allows magnification to read easily without loss of resolution?

I've had a couple, and the quality was excellent.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Just received an 1853 death certificate as pdf - the main body is exactly what you'd get printed on a paper certificate and is very readable and high resolution. To this has been added a scan of the top of the page with the Superintendent Registrar/Registrar District details and the column heading No. When Died. Name and Surname. etc.

In pixel terms this is 1583 × 485 (55.84 x 17.11 cm at 300 pixels per inch) - an 8-bit 38.1Mb file.

Hope this reassures
David

Many thanks for the info. I have scanned the paper copies of the certificates I used in my FH pdf, so this seems very good news, since it will simplify things and be cheaper too. Off to the GRO website right now!
