Help needed Heslup Graham Foulkes
« on: Saturday 17 November 18 11:53 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on what my Grandfather did during the war.
His name was Heslup Graham Foulkes and he was born in Kirkdale, Lancashire on 2nd November 1909. That’s all I have to go on except for the rumour he was a concientious objector.

You will find him on the 1939 Register with his wife and daughter in Liverpool.  Presumedly he followed the same occupation given there if he didn't enlist.

They had a second daughter in 1942 and her birth certificate will give her father's occupation at the time.

My friend, who is on ancestry.com is finding trouble locating that, but thank you for the info.

Well that is strange! Mispelling? A very big leap.

Looking at the handwriting in the document this seems to me to be at the more understandable end of the spectrum of transcription errors.

Why would it be so wrong? Is it down to handwriting?

Transcription is a fallible process.  It’s something you quickly get used to in researching family history.
