Photo of Thomas Nash WW1
« on: Saturday 17 November 18 14:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am trying to discover more about my grandfather Thomas Nash and thought some improvement to his photo would enable me to find out more on the Military section on here.
Thank you

Hi Wendy, I have cleaned it up a bit, but don't know if it will give any more military information. He has crossed rifles on his right arm if that's any help. Was he wounded? He seems to have a walking stick by his side.

Cpl. Musketry Instructor. Wearing tropical kit so overseas somewhere.
Although not particularly visible his tunic which is pre 1916 looks like it might be cut away as worn by Scottish Regts.

Looks like a laurel hedge, ivy on ground and oak bark.  Not very tropical.

 ;D

To all those who people who spent time on my photograph thank you very much, now to see what I can discover. I thought he was a PTI as my mother said he spent ages hanging from the door jamb to reach the required height. It was the cap I have only just noticed that looks like a glengarry and wanted to clarify it.. No luck in discovering his records. He died in 1956 so I was too young to find our other family didn't seem to know much either.

Trishanne I have heard family rumours that he was saved by his cigarette case so it is possible this is whilst he was recovering.

jim1 Thank you I will check as I thought it was a PTI badge but no crown. Though he was in India at one point I believe but one never knows as family may get it wrong. No idea why a Scottish Regiment as he was born in London, lived in Birmingham and moved from one to the other as he was a costermonger.

Mckha489 maybe back in UK on leave or recuperating, it certainly doesn't look like the tropics.
