Key Hill Cemetary
« on: Saturday 17 November 18 19:22 GMT (UK) »
By any chance does anyone have any images of graves from Key Hill or Warstone Lane cemetary?  We know that quite a few of our relatives are buried there and whilst we have go some info from the JQRT website, it doesnt cover all the ones we need!

I am looking for Yates graves from the 1800s - we have info on Edwin plus some other stuff from the JQRT amazing site.

TIA

I don't know what JQRT stands for, but you may or may not know that there are some Yates graves on Find a Grave in these two cemeteries.  In Key Hill Cemetery there is Edwin Yates, born 1820, died 30th June 1874, age 53-54.

In Warstone Lane Cemetery there is Della Rose Yates 1932-1934, James Yates, 26th May 1811-4 April 1881, and Sarah Yates, unknown-9th June 1911.

The last two have been photographed by a gentleman who has photographed thousands of graves in these cemeteries.  Great photographer who makes very nice photographs of these gravestones.

Did you see the Memorials on the (JQRT) Jewellery Quarter Research Trust, I note there are quite a number of references to Yates.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Is it a private grave or a public grave you are referring to ?
Not all graves had headstones,  therefore will not have an inscription ( memorial ).
Some graves are public graves and some  families could not afford a stone.

The council took over the privately owned Key Hill Cemetery ( non denominational  ) and toppled tested headstones . These  were toppled over, causing  some graves  to be  broken .   Over time these have sunken into the ground.  ( therefore  may have an inscription on the stone ).

The Friends of Key Hill Cemetery & Warstone Lane Cemetery raise funds via   Membership, Donations ,  Guided Tours ( Second Sunday in the month )     to restore  these broken headstones as well as researching the lives of those buried in these two historic cemeteries in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, Hockley.
The group  are  all volunteers who  also have  regular clean up days.  The  Friends  also have a stall in the Cemeteries on Heritage Open Days ( Sept ) and at the Jewellery Quarter Fest in  July   assisting  the public   with a section & plot number of their Ancestors grave, as well as attending local history fairs.
The Friends have recently    made donations towards Constance Naden's ( Poet & Philosopher)  new headstone and Major Harry Gem new grave ( Co-Founder of Lawn Tennis )

Image is Constance Naden's Grave that is due to be replaced.
