The wife of Edward Fisher, born c.1795 Wednesbury, Staffs
« on: Sunday 18 November 18 14:14 GMT (UK) »
I believe my 3rd great grandfather, Edward, married 'Sarah' between 1816 and 1823.

From FamilySearch I have:

1) a marriage to Sarah Jones on 30 Sept 1816 at All Saints, West Bromwich.

2) a marriage to Sarah Round on 2 Oct 1819 in Tipton, Staffs.

3) a marriage to Sarah Smith on 23 Jan 1823 in St Peter, Wolverhampton.

I know of two children born to the couple, Mary abt 1822 and Edward art 1826.
Edward died in 1825 and Sarah re-married in 1829 but using her married name.

From Dudley Archive I have a copy of the 1829 marriage register. Courtesy of the Librarian at the Sandwell Archive I have a transcript of the marriages to Sarah Jones and Sarah Round. Unfortunately none of these documents provides any clue to Sarah's maiden name.

I'm struggling to identify Sarah's maiden name and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

I can find the following children baptised to Edward and Sarah Fisher in Wednesbury. Edward is a miner
Elizabeth 21 December 1817
Sarah 2 July 1820
Mary 5 October 1823
Eliza 5 October 1823
Edward 18 June 1826 (this does not say that the father is deceased.)

There is also a Mary Ann baptised 13 November 1819 to Edward, a Hinge maker and Sarah in Tipton.

The burial entry for Edward in 1825 is in Wednesbury and gives his abode as Tividale.

Many thanks for taking the time.

For Sarah you've written July 1820 but if I look at FS the only one I find is 2 April 1820 in Wednesbury so is this someone in a different family?

I think Edward was baptised on 1 Feb 1795 so with the data you've provided I'm wondering if he lived all his life in Wednesbury. If that's the case, and noting the baptism dates, then the 1816 marriage to Sarah Jones looks the most likely to me.

Is this a valid assumption?

David

Sorry, my typo, it should be April.

I can find a baptism for an Edward Fisher in Wednesbury 1 February 1795 mother Mary. Not saying this is your chap but it's all I can find. There is also an Edward born Tipton to Daniel and Mary in 1794 and one in West Bromwich 1793 to Edward and Pheny just to confuse matters.

The witnesses at the Edward Fisher/Sarah Jones marriage were William Fisher and Ann Jones. The marriage is on FreeReg. I've had a look but cannot see a William born to any of the above parents so not sure of his relationship to Edward.

From the dates of the baptisms of the children it is certainly pointing to the marriage to Sarah Jones.
