Patrick Feeney birth 1845 - 1855
« on: Monday 19 November 18 14:33 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information about the birth, ancestors and marriage of Patrick Feeney.  He was born in County Carlow, married Elizabeth and moved to Liverpool before 1871. He was a merchant seaman marine fireman.  I have the England census information from 1871 but nothing prior to this point.  Any help or information will be appreciated.

Did they have any children listed on the census?
If you could locate a birth of a child you'd have a maiden name for Elizabeth to work with
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

Thanks for that those names of children tie in with the census returns.  The problem may be that the 1911 census return image has a mark under Patrick's place of birth which may suggest Elizabeth was born in Ireland and the other censuses seem to agree.  Do you have any comments or guidance?

Some census returns seem to imply that Elizabeth was born in Ireland but there were many errors made through misunderstandings, strong accents and low literacy.
However in 1881 when Patrick was not in the household she is shown as Ireland.

This leads me to believe that she was born in Ireland and this was written in with no reference to another person

You were right as the birth certificate of their son William James Emanuel Feeney (the one I am interested in) born in Liverpool on 25 December 1873 has the father listed as Patrick Feeney (Stoker) and the mother as Elizabeth formerly Harper Residing in Idris Street
I think this is Elizabeth Hutton Harper - Baptism: 14 Jan 1839 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England registered 1st qtr West Derby, Lancashire, England 20 844 born to Thomas Heaton Harper and Ann Hutton but I am still trying to confirm this.  Any thoughts?

Hi there Rod
I was alerted to this site/forum, only last night by my cousin John Feeney. Patrick Feeney born 1846 in Carlow is my Great Grandad. A few month ago I gathered info on Ancestry.Com.
If I can help in any way I would be pleased to do so.
