Not sure what the 70 or 10 is. (maybe distance or some such) . If it's on line, do any of the others on the page have any numbers?

The (70) - I thought it might be (10) - could be a reference to the correction, ie the 70th (or 10th) one in the register. If so, there may be a corresponding note in the margin to explain it, with the initials or signature of whoever made the change.

This is the way errors should be corrected in statutory marriage registers, but I don't think I've seen it in a baptism register before.

That's exactly what I thought, Arthur, when I went off a while ago. Usually the correction code is in the margin though.
