Porter (Police court) any ideas??

My ancestor was named to have the profession of " Porter (Police court)" not sure what this means?

He had a job as a porter and that was the place where he portered?

As a porter he was probably the  doorkeeper, who  had a  porter's lodge at the entrance to the court.
A porters' lodge is a place near the entrance of a building where one or more porters can be found to respond to enquiries from the public and direct them around the building https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porters'_lodge
