Help with occupation and forename
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 13:31 GMT (UK) »
In the first photo I am keen to know what the occupation is listed above ‘widow’.. in her earlier life she is listed as a fruit and fish dealer (odd combination) so it could be an abbreviation of this but I’m unable to make it out.

In the second picture, from a marriage cert, I am looking to find the name at the bottom, it looks like murdoch? Hannan.
Many thanks, JT

Are you sure that's an occupation?

In the second snip, I'd say the name is Muredach Hannan

Are you sure it's widow - looks a bit like weaver to me. Where is it from?

Could the first one be Tin Smith's Widow?
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Yeah I think you’ve got it arthurk! Don’t know why it didn’t occur to me already!
In regards to the name muredach, I’ve searched for a meaning of the name and haven’t been able to find much, does anyone know what it could mean/where it’s from?
Thank you all for your help!

I thought it might be Irish?

Or else the writer didn't know how to spell Murdoch?

If you Google Muredach, it comes up quite often as an Irish first name (with that exact spelling).
