Thomas Nash
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Could anyone enlighten me as to what regiment my grandfather was serving in or any other information? Is he holding a glengarry please? I have found no records for him and the name of Thomas Nash is not as rare as I could wish for!

Thank you Wendy47

He's a corporal, he's a marksman. It might be a glengarry. When and where was he born?

Hello Shaun J
Sorry I haven't answered earlier I have been ill.

My grandfather was born 4th Dec 1893 in Mile End, London and as far as I know [yet] we have no Scottish connections. Rumour has it he was a PTI  but as he died in 1956 I was too young to ask and my family didn't seem to know very much. Typically he probably never spoke about it. The family spent their time travelling between London and Ladywood, Birmingham as they had greengrocers shops and went up to Covent Garden. He was born on one of these trips to London. My uncle thought he was in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment but all photos and paperwork were destroyed during WW2. The one photo we have is the one my grandmother had in her handbag. He settled in London later.

I'm afraid I've found nothing more on this one. Presumably he was out of the army when he married your grandmother? I don't suppose you have his medals?

Hi

No I have nothing of Granddads that I know of. His things might have been left to my uncle who had no children so may have been sold upon his death. Yes I believe he was back working in the greengrocers or maybe started in the London Docks by then.

Thank you Wendy47

Having looked at this on your previous post he does look like he's wearing the cut away tunic worn by Scottish Regts.

Thank you everyone. I have more questions to answer now.   :-\

I suppose he was attached to the Scottish Regiment to make up for the numbers killed or injured as men were sent were they were needed I presume.

Merry Christmas to all those that spent time replying to my post

The Scottish connection is a red herring as its tropical dress so could equally be a flat side cap favoured by many units in warm climes.

Hi Alan

Thank you.  It seems the more I find out the muddier the the problems appear. The joy of FH!
