Marriage Bonds/Allegations for Swanage/Corfe Castle area
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 16:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi could someone please tell me if marriage bonds or allegations survive for the area?

I have seen the Sarum Marriage bonds at findmypast:

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/world-records/full-list-of-united-kingdom-records/life-events-bmds/sarum-marriage-licence-bonds

However marriages that I know happened by licence at Corfe Castle are not there.

For example if you search for the licence marriages listed at the link below, those people don't appear in the Sarum index:

http://www.opcdorset.org/CorfeCastleFiles/CorfeCastleMarriages1602-1841.htm

I also know that my ancestors John Benvall (Benfield) of Corfe Castle who married Elizabeth Plowman of Winfrith at Melcombe Horsey in 1728 must have married by licence too but that can't be found there either.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Many thanks,
Jon

FFHS publication on BTs and Marriage Licences appears to suggest that Abstracts of MLs for the Royal Peculiar of Corfe Castle 1602-1800 are published in British Record Society 22.   :-\  It also states that Corfe Castle is not included in the jurisdiction of the archdeaconry of Dorset.

Not sure if this makes any sense at all to you - I have no connections to Dorset, so I could be passing on something you already know.  :-*

Thanks very much for this, no I hadn't found it!

I have just found and ordered a copy of the book through bookfinder.com so let's see what comes up there!

Thanks again,
Jon
