Mary Clara Smeatham help please
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 17:34 GMT (UK) »
I am getting confused whether Mary Clara's mother was called Annie or Jane?
I know that Mary's father was called John Smeatham and he was a labourer, records show this on a birth certificate for Mary and also the 1881 Census.
The birth certificate for Mary Clara names the mother as Annie however from 1881 onwards all census' including Mary Clara and her father and her siblings name Jane as the mother, just hoping someone could help me as understandably I don't want to venture up the wrong route with the wrong name!

Thanks for any help/information!

I think Annie Smeatham (nee Tinsley) must have died before 1 March 1874 when John Smeatham, widower, married Jane Mackerell at St John's Liverpool (same church where John and Ann Tinsley married in 1867).

so possibly Mary Clara's (b.1870) mother was Annie and her siblings (all born 1876 after) are children of Jane?

If this is the family in 1881 the other children wouldn't have been born in 1871 :)

Jane Smeatham    32
Mary C. Smeatham    12
Eugene Smeatham    6
