Could I now turn this about and ask after Samuel Withers?
The only info I currently have is a possible birth date of 1738, presumably at Birmingham, but not at all sure; as well as his 1761 marriage to Mary Pitt (as earlier discovered); no death date and no occupation.
Samuel Withers was a taylor and staymaker in 1761 (date of his marriage) and a friend John Fox a jeweller was witness at the marriage.
Are there any entries in Trade Directories of the time for taylors and staymakers in and around the Bull Ring, Birmingham, please?
Thanks
David

Samuel Withers is listed on the Birmingham Jurors Lists 1772 & 1773
As a Taylor as are Joseph & Benjamin Withers 1773 & 1774.

Listed as a Taylor in Smallbrook St.1777 & 1781

There is a will on Ancestry, it names his Nephew Edwin Withers as Exacutor.

Samuel Withers' will 1834 at London (thanks ColC!) advises there is a nephew named Edwin who is Executor. In Samuel's direct line his son Edward Weston Withers died in 1819, leaving a son named Edwin (1804-1888) a tobacco and rope businessman in Birmingham. Would Samuel have named his grandson as a nephew? Seems doubtful to me.
There is also a man named Joseph Withers who had a son named Edwin, baptized at St Phillip's church Birmingham 25 May 1809. Cannot find any relationship between Joseph and Samuel.
Any clues, please?
Thanks
David

Samuel Wethers   Born about 1769   Burial 13 May 1834   Edgbaston, St Bartholomew

Samuel Withers   Baptism   1 Aug 1769   Birmingham, St Martin   Samuel & Mary

Joseph Withers   Baptism   29 Jun 1776   Birmingham, St Martin   Benjamin & Sarah

Samuel Withers   Baptism   13 Oct 1738   Birmingham, St Martin   Benjamin

Benjamin Withers   Baptism   20 Jan 1740   Birmingham, St Martin   Benjamin
Benjamin Withers   Baptism   14 Jan 1746   Birmingham, St Martin   Benjamin

I guess Samuel & Joseph were cousins.

Hi Colin,
Checked my notes re the two Edwin Withers.
1804 Edwin son of Edward Weston and Elizabeth Dean is baptized; grandson of Samuel
1809 Edwin son of Joseph is baptized, maybe nephew of Samuel Withers.
Both at St Phillips.
As Samuel had been a tailor in Smallbrook street,  perhaps his nephew was interested in the trade, hence Samuel left the business to him.
Any trade or other directories mention Edwin Withers a Tailor,  preferably in  Smallbrook street?
Cheers
David

Copied from your other thread.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=819201.msg6882783

my suggestion, thus...

Edward Weston Withers had a brother Samuel.
Perhaps it is he whose will was probated in 1834, His  Nephew was the Edwin the son of Edward Weston Withers

(After all Edward Weston was baptised 1762, so his father Samuel would have been nearly 100 by 1834.)
