Looking for a lost relative

I appreciate this is a very long shot but I’m trying to find a person from my wife’s family who was born out of wedlock and then ‘given’ away, probably not officially adopted as it was prior to 1926.

The information I have (although not confirmed) is this girl was born around 1916 in Newport in Shropshire to a Lucy Maria Picken and the father was a George Lovett, George was subsequently killed during WW1 in 1918.

Lucy then married George’s brother Frederick in 1919 and went on to have 2 sons one of which was my wife’s Father.

We believe the girl was called Joan and there was some contact with my wife’s father but we don’t know when and all parties who may know are no longer with us.
 
There is a photo of the girl we found possibly she's around 20 but we don’t know anymore, if anybody recognises her or can suggest anywhere that we could look it would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried searching on the various names Joan Picken, Pickin and Joan Lovett, Lovatt but no luck.

Lucy Maria Picken was b 1891 Madeley per freebmd

There is a Picken/Picken birth on freebmd in 1917 that is a possibility but name is not Joan.  Before  going down that path you would really need to confirm if the mother was Lucy by buying a copy of the birth cert

Have you considered that Joan may have been her middle name?  There is Harrett J. PICKEN birth in Atcham registration district 1917, mother’s maiden name PICKEN, she may be worth looking at.

There is a Harriet Joan Picken born in 1917 Atcham district September Q. Which may fit the bill Vol 06A 818

Atcham district in Shropshire.

You would need the cert to be sure

Just throwing this in to the pot. 

No birth for a Harriett M Picken/Pickin but there is a marriage for that name in Shropshire 1947 to Percival A J Smith. 2 children born to the marriage so Picken wasn’t a previous married name. 

Percival died 2005 but he was b 1925.  Can’t find a death for Harriett up to 2007

I hadn't thought about a different name but Lucy had an older sister called Harriet so that could be a good trail to follow.

Also thanks for the information regarding George's will I hadn't known about that.

I sent for the birth certificate which arrived today and it looks like its the one with the mother listed as Lucy Picken but no father shown and place of birth shown as 11 Barton St Shrewsbury.

The hurt continues but again thanks for the connection.
