Kings Shropshire Light Infantry WW1
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 19:14 GMT (UK) »
My Grandfather, Herbert George Rudge joined the KSLI in 1912 and the attached Photo is dated on the reverse - 1914. Can anyone explain the uniform that he is wearing? I know that he was in India - could it be a foreign service uniform?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you both for your very prompt replies. I have my Grandfather's New Testament - given to him by his future wife, Mary, in 1915 - inside the front cover he has listed the places that he served during WW1

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353468 is the war diary for the 1914/1915 period on the Western Front.  This can be downloaded and it is also on Ancestry if you have a sub.

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4558042 is the diary for the later period.  This has not been digitised.  Look for books on the campaign,, 2 KSLI were in 27 Division.
