Help Identifying Profession
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 23:35 GMT (UK) »
Need help identifying the occupation listed within the circle. It's been listed twice on accident, so that helps a bit. We figure the first word must be related to a Millener, or hat-maker, but I can't tell what the second word is, other than that it begins with B.

Hello and welcome
I think the second word is ‘Business’ using the  long ‘s’ form at the end.

That makes a lot of sense. I can see all the other letters, but the long-form s threw me off.

Welcome from me too.    :)

I think it might say Millinery Business - looks liks a 'y' at end of first word.  Same thing in the end - just being pedantic.

Probably better change the caption to please identify ANYTHING on this Census Record of a place in Cass County, Missouri. In English it would be High Street, in American Down Town somewhere in that County. The area is a business district only, that we can see. Probably a business in the millinery trade that the proprietor lives upstairs and business is conducted downstairs.

I agree that is appears to be “Millering Business”, i.e., he operated a mill.

'Millering Business' next door to a baker - coincidence?
