Gordons and Stewarts from Muckamore and Doagh Grange
« on: Thursday 22 November 18 09:43 GMT (UK) »
I have managed to find this information regarding my ancestors Gordons and Stewart:

Northern Irish Gravestone Inscriptions
Surname(s)   Graveyard   Civil Parish   Graveyard Location   County
GORDON, STEWART   Muckamore   Muckamore, Grange of   Muckamore   Antrim
Gravestone Inscription   Erected by Alexander Gordon, Belfast, in memory of his beloved wife Maria Stewart, who died on the 2nd January 1884, aged 52 years, his daughter Maggie, died 2nd July 1864, aged 4 years, his son John, died 29th December 1867, aged 16 years, also his father John Gordon, died 19th December 1859, aged 54 years, also his mother Margaret Gordon, died 15th March 1880, aged 70 years,
Comment   [Sandstone Headstone],[ MARIA STEWART, 2nd January 1884, No Will, JOHN GORDON, 19th December 1859, No Will, MARGARET GORDON, 15th March 1880, No Will]

Here is my brick wall. My great grandfather was John Gordon who died in 1907 in Everton Street Belfast. His brother Samuel was present at death and I have verified the relationship between Samuel, David and several more of Maria Stewart and Alexander Gordons children. If my great grandfather's older brother John died in 1867 in Carnmoney, my John must have been born after that date. It says in his marriage cert that his father was Alexander Gordon Tinsmith as does the other marriage cert of those siblings I can find. Why can't I find a birth record for him? Also, no death record for Margaret Gordon his grandmother who died in 1880 and I've looked on GRONI.

your great grandfather's older brother John died in 1867 in Carnmoney, your John must have been born after that date....and he died in 1907 age 37 as per cert!

Born 1870.

Thanks both for answering and for the info. I can confirm that the death cert n 1907 in my great grandfather. The only birth in the years 1870-72 was a John Gordon born to Alexander Gordon sailor and Elizabeth Hanna. That doesn’t fit with Samuel who was born to Maria Stewart and Alex Gordon tinsmith.

I had noticed the workhouse death for Margaret Gordon but I dismissed it as the date didn’t match with the headstone inscription.
